Huskies earn non-conference win

Daisy Robinson scored four goals and Bella Pollack added two for Cardinal in a 6-2 non-conference win at Leetonia on Tuesday.

Robinson and Pollack each also added an assist and Audrey Avalon also contributed to the win with an assist.

“Once again, Daisy, Bella and Audrey found their stride together and moved the ball down the field really well,” Cardinal coach Vanessa Pintabona said. “Each game, they continue to get better at reading each other. Senior Lorena Fortenbury, who is new to the team this year, had a great game. She consistently got a good foot on the ball, clearing it well away from our goal.”

Cardinal overcame its share of challenges to pull out the win.

“The girls played well today,” Pintabona said. “We had no subs, were down a player and were missing our regular goalie but the girls rose to the challenge. They did a good job covering the field and filling any gaps created my missing a center midfielder.”

Madi Rosenberger stepped in to tend the goal. She finished the game with 21 saves.

“Madi Rosenberger really stepped up as a team player,” Pintabona said. “We found out last minute our regular goalie couldn’t make the game so Madi, who hasn’t played goalie since early last season, put on her gear without complaint and jumped in. We definitely missed having her at center mid but she did a phenomenal job defending our goal.”
