Huskies finish strong at Crestwood

Led by several strong individual performances, Cardinal’s track teams finished well at the 2018 Crestwood Spotlight Invitational on Friday.

The girls’ team finished in third place with 91 points while the boys were seventh with 39.

Anna Blubaugh scored in three events.

She won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.81 and also ran legs in the 4×200 and 4×400-meter relays.

“I’m really pleased with my win in the 400, especially since it was such a close finish and it took a lot of effort to hold out at the end,” Blubaugh said. “It’s definitely reassuring to know that I’m able to pull off a win with a good time because now I know I’m capable of another win in future races.”

The 4×200 team of Sarah Shahan, Taylor Zeigler, Blubaugh and Mackenzie Conley finished fourth with a time of 1:57.48 and Blubaugh teamed up with Jenna Ayer, Zeigler and Shahan to finish second in the 4×400 with a time of 4:36.81.

“Overall, I’m pretty content with all of my performances,” Blubaugh said. “In the events where I lacked, I think I made up for it with my other races, specifically the 400. All of us in the 4×2 and 4×4 have been working hard all week, so considering that, we all put in a solid effort.”

Shahan also finished third in the 200-meter dash (28.98) and eighth in the 400 (1:10.08). Ayer placed sixth in the 800 (2:49.35), Zeigler was second in the 300-meter hurdles (52.91) and Conley placed seventh in the long jump (14-2).

Marina Cooper scored in both hurdles events.

She finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.54) and seventh in the 300 (57.16). Hanna Sauberan placed seventh in the 3200-meter relay (16:09) and Anna Avalon and Kaylee Klepper continued to perform well in the throws.

Avalon was second in the discus (109-5.5) and fourth in the shot (31-10.50 while Klepper was fourth in the discus (106-9) and third in the shot (32-11).

Cardinal’s 4×100-meter and 4×800-meter relay teams also scored.

Abby Geesling, Jessica Proch, Cooper and Conley teamed up to finish seventh in the 4×100 and Megan Maddox, Geesling, Ayer and Sauberan finished fourth in the 4×800 (12:01.78).

Maddox also placed third in the 800 (2:43.25) and fifth in the 1600 (6:10.75).

“I was very happy with my meet,” Maddox said. “I felt that I ran a strong 1600 as well as a strong 800. I’m still getting used to running the mile with the 800 shortly after and I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. I feel that my 800 was the strongest race. I placed third with second close in front and was able to run my fastest 800 this season. I hope to continue to decrease my time as the season progresses.”

Hayden Cummins was the highest finisher for the Cardinal boys team.

He placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.76) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (46.43). Cummins also scored on two relay teams.

Cummins teamed up with Jacob Revak, Ben Lobdell, and Trevor Bachna to finish fourth in the 4×400-meter relay (4:00.5.6) and Cummins, Revak, Tyson Sinclair and Michael Lucarelli were fifth in the 4×100 (47.77).

Bachna, White, Lobdell and Todd Wright finished fifth in the 4×800-meter relay (9:58.04).

Also scoring for the Huskies were Seth Peters, who was fifth in the shot put (41-9), Lucarelli, who finished fifth in the long jump (17-8.5) and sixth in the 200 (24.68), Trey Shirkey, who placed sixth in the discus (108-10.5), and Sinclair, who finished fifth in the 400 (56.77).
