Lions fall in season opener

The long-awaited season opener for the Orange volleyball team ended with a 3-1 loss at Chagrin Falls but the Lions showed plenty of promise on the court.

“I’m very proud of this team although we opened with a loss,” Orange coach Jen Gold said. “We need to jell, find our groove, and nail down the right lineup. This was game one for us. We will improve and play great volleyball.”

Chagrin Falls won the first set 25-14 but the Lions bounced back with a 26-24 win in the second set to tie the match, 1-1.

The Tigers won the next two—25-14, 25-16—to close out their win.

Lena Gurunian recorded 25 digs for Orange and Taylor Silverstein quarterbacked the Lion offense until Gold switched to a 5-1 formation.

“Taylor Silverstein led the offense setting and had two kills before switching to a 5-1, which she did beautifully,” Gold said. “Hard work is what it takes to improve. That is what we will do.”
