Melaragno hat trick leads Wickliffe to win at Badger

Jenna Melaragno recorded a hat trick and Ana Stjepanovic scored twice to lead Wickliffe to a 7-0 win at Badger on Saturday.

Gianna Ranallo and Bryanna Butler also scored for the Blue Devils, who improved to 9-1-1 on the year.

“The team played very well together,” Wickliffe coach Steve Gribovicz said. “The passes were crisp and the off-ball movement was presenting many opportunities. The starters initiated the tempo and the reserves continued it. It was all together a good game for us.”

Wickliffe’s defense did not allow a shot on goal.

“Our defense really helped to ignite our offense today,” Gribovicz said. “At the beginning of the game, we made an initial switch in tactics and the girls ran with it. Our defense played through the ball and was smart to start the attacks.”

Joelle Banks, Massey Andrykovitch and Ranallo each contributed with an assist.

“The team came out ready to go from the starting whistle,” Gribovicz said. “I was impressed with the mentality the girls had for the game given the longer travel and emotional game Thursday (a 2-2 tie at Berkshire). They are building a culture of not only physical and skill strength, but also mental strength.”
