Orange falls at Hawken

Orange seniors Katie Hoover, Haley Shedden and Carly Stark all turned in strong performances but the Lions fell to host Hawken in four sets on Thursday.

The Hawks won the match 25-17, 19-25, 25-22, 25-12.

“The girls started off slow in game one and then came alive in game two,” said Orange coach Jen Gold. “We had so much energy that continued into game three. Even though the girls fought hard we could not come up with the win.”

Hoover recorded 15 kills and Shedden finished with 27 assists for the Lions.

“Senior Katie Hoover was on tonight,” Gold said. “She was dominant at the net which benefited us tremendously. Senior Haley Shedden showed great hustle tonight. She ran all over the floor and gave great effort.”

Stark finished with 10 digs and junior Sophia Garcia Olalla recorded five blocks for Orange.

Hawken’s Jordan Kutash was 16-of-18 from the service line with six kills and four digs, Ally Sewell was a perfect 17-for-17 from the service line with 41 assists and six kills and Deena Akras recorded 12 kills and two blocks for the Hawks.
