SOUTHINGTON—With a 3-0 win over Valley Christian, the Fairport Harding volleyball team claimed its first postseason victory since 2013.
The Skippers won the match 25-18, 25-15, 25-13.
“We just came in excited,” said Fairport coach Mike Fitzgerald. “We don’t historically do well in the playoffs so we were pretty excited today after the win. We hope to keep it rolling throughout the playoffs.”
Caitlin Potter and Sarah Farmer led the Skippers with five kills each. Potter added an ace and Farmer also recorded a block, an ace and had no serve/receive errors.
Lexi Tanker posted a team-high 19 assists and also finished with two kills and four digs and Amelia Kapostasy contributed with three kills, three aces and eight digs.
“Our passing was better than usual today,” Fitzgerald said. “Our serving was way off but we hope to improve that on Saturday.”
The Skippers advanced to Saturday’s sectional championship game against third-seeded Lordstown. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m.
“We need to clean up a lot after today,” Fitzgerald said. “We don’t know much about them but they have a good record so we’re going to have to practice hard the next couple of days and come in and fight hard for it.”
