West G’s Shenkel scores 26 in all-star win

PEPPER PIKE—West Geauga’s Jax Shenkel and Caleb Ramey played integral roles in leading the Wolverines to the Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division title this winter.

On Sunday, they stepped up to lead the Air Force All-Stars to a 128-100 win over the Marines in the 2018 Ohio Varsity Senior Shootout presented by at Ursuline College.

Shenkel scored a game-high 26 points while Ramey finished with 19.

North’s Brandon Barron also scored 19 for the Air Force and Hawken’s Hugh Brown pitched in with 17. Kenston’s Michael Swartz and Cardinal’s Luke Timas both finished in double figures with 12 and 11, respectively.

Seven Marines All-Stars scored in double figures but it wasn’t enough to counter the Air Force’s offensive surge.

Chardon’s Alex Sulka, who at halftime was named the Ohio Varsity Player of the Year, led the Marines with 17 points. Independence’s Kyle Stefanski finished with 15, Chardon’s Joe Scerbo scored 12 and Fairport Harding’s Kasey Carrabine pitched in with 11. Madison’s Nate Fawver, who earlier in the day won the 3-point shooting contest, Berkshire’s Tim Pillot and Mentor’s Matt Koski all finished with 10 points.

West Geauga’s Jeff Javorek coached the Air Force All-Stars while Chardon’s Chad Murawski led the Marines. The game was an official fundraiser for The Wounded Warrior Project. Each team represented one branch of the United States Armed Forces.
