CHESTERLAND—Nicola Ehrbar scored two goals and Rae Ehrbar added one to lead West Geauga to a 3-0 win over Geneva in a Division II sectional championship game on Thursday.
“Geneva played a great game. It is always tough to play a team a second time in the same season,” West Geauga coach Kori Chapic said. “The Ehrbar sisters provided our scoring tonight, Nicola with a brace and Rae with a lone star.”
Nicola Ehrbar scored in the closing minutes of the first half to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead at the break.
Rae Ehrbar made it 2-0 early in the second and West Geauga’s defense did the rest.
“Nicola’s goal at the end of the first half was a key momentum shift for our team,” Chapic said. “Rae followed up with her goal shortly into the second half and our defense held strong to limit the Geneva attack. Our defense worked well with our midfield tonight to keep possession.”
Jenna Hoeh assisted on all three West Geauga goals.
“Jenna’s vision and touch set up Nicola twice and Rae once as she was responsible for three assists on the evening,” Chapic said.
Sarah Grinstead recorded four saves in goal to preserve the clean sheet.
“The Allegretti and Zanella twins teamed with Bella Burkhard to provide us with another great defensive outing,” Chapic said. “Sarah earned the shutout with four saves and aggressive play that disrupted the Eagles on offense.”
West Geauga, the No. 4 seed in the Division II Mentor District, will play at top-seeded Gilmour Academy in a district semifinal on Monday.
