Wickliffe closes out week with win at Chardon

Wickliffe closed out an undefeated week with a 4-0 win at Chardon on Saturday.

The Blue Devils finished the week 3-0 and now stand 8-1 on the year heading into Thursday’s Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division showdown at defending league champion Berkshire.

“The team played a focused game today,” said Wickliffe coach Steve Gribovicz. “This had the makings of a trap game given it was the third game in five days and against a quality opponent in Chardon. However, the team took care of what they needed to do and used ideas from the previous two games to earn the victory.”

Jenna Melaragno scored two of Wickliffe’s four goals while Ana Stjepanovic and Gianna Ranallo had the others.

Morgan Gabriel recorded a pair of assists and Caitlyn Henderson and Ranallo each finished with one.

“The initial spark for us was the first goal of the game by Ana Stjepanovic, who used a precise lead pass from Caitlyn Henderson to score on ball that she had to try hard to outrace the goalie coming out for it,” Gribovicz said. “Then, in the second half, the team took it to another level as a whole to complete the game for the victory.”

Kaylee Lauriel recorded two saves in recording Wickliffe’s sixth shutout of the season.

“The defense locked in during the second half to stop multiple attacks while Kaylee Lauriel had another solid game in goal,” Gribovicz said.
