Andrew Michalski carded a match-low 43 to lead Wickliffe to a 198-221 win over visiting Cuyahoga Heights on Monday.
The win was the first of the season for the Blue Devils and the first for head coach Mike Cackowski.
“Being a first-year coach, it was really exciting for me to see the kids win their first match after working so hard and coming really close a couple of times,” Cackowski said. “They showed great poise on a hot day.”
Calvin Cackowski (49), Mario Cefaratti (52) and Robbie Veri (54) rounded out the scoring for the Blue Devils.
“Cackowski, Cefaratti and Veri all posted solid scores to help get the win,” Coach Cackowski said. “It was the first time that our top four all played well. I think getting the first one out of the way will help total team confidence and help us get over the hump.”
Gabe Stoehr (64) and Leah Borsich (68) also competed for Wickliffe.
“Our five and six, Stoehr and Borsich, respectively, also played their best golf thus far, so even though their scores did not figure into the final, the confidence seemed to flow through the whole squad,” Cackowski said. “I think that this helped our young team see what the future could hold.”
Alex Krinov led Cuyahoga Heights with a 49. Mike Hopkins (54), Justin Lambert (55) and Kyle Novak (63) also scored for the Redskins.
