Wickliffe trailed in all three games but the Blue Devils managed to pull out a 3-0 win at Richmond Heights on Thursday.
The Blue Devils won 25-18, 25-23, 25-21.
“The girls had to play catch-up each game but fought hard and found a way to win,” said Wickliffe coach Danette Cullinane. “I am always proud of the girls no matter what the outcome of our match may be. They are my fighters and the word quit is not in their vocabulary.”
Olivia Clark recorded three service aces in the first set and Gillian Szinte powered the Blue Devils in their surge to capture the first set.
Abby Baumgartner dominated in the second set as she tipped several balls and hammered home a few kills and in the third set, it was Nina DiCicco and Elizabeth Lesco helping the Blue Devils seal the win.
“Abby Baumgartner had an awesome night,” Cullinane said. “She brought control and the leadership needed to keep the girls in the game and lead them to a victory.”
