Wickliffe runs to 5-0 start

MIDDLEFIELD–Wickliffe ran for 438 yards on 40 carries in a come from behind 34-14 win at Cardinal on Friday.

With the win, the Blue Devils improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Chagrin Valley Conference.

Chase Fortkamp led the way for Wickliffe as he carried 10 times for 204 yards and Isaac Pettway added 169 yards on 19 carries and scored three touchdowns. Jaylen Bowers ran for a 22-yard touchdown run and Brad Dieterich threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Fortkamp in the game.

Cardinal’s Zack Czako ran for a two-yard touchdown to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead with 11:30 left in the first quarter. Wickliffe scored the next 34 points before Matt Carney threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Crossland Robinson midway through the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

Carney threw for 130 yards in the game.

Wickliffe travels to Richmond Heights on Friday while Cardinal hosts Fairport Harding.
