Wolverines power past Laurel

Grace Keiper scored two goals to lead West Geauga to a 5-1 non-conference win at Laurel on Thursday.

Rae Ehrbar, Bailey Zanella and Hannah Barker also scored in the win and Nicola Ehrbar finished with two assists while Jenna Hoeh, Rae Ehrbar and Zanella each recorded one.

“Grace got our attack started with two fantastic finishes,” said West Geauga coach Kori Chapic. “Aubrey (Zanella), Jenna, and Rae were moving the ball well and keeping possession in the midfield. Bella (Burkhard), Emily (Cochran), Madison (Allegretti), and Aubrey put in another stellar defensive outing. The girls work so well together to protect our half of the field.”

Zanella’s and Barker’s goals were the first of the season for each player.

Sarah Grinstead recorded three saves for the Wolverines, who improved to 8-4-2 on the year.

“The players have put in a great deal of work throughout the year to improve,” Chapic said. “We began with fitness workouts last spring and the effort is paying off. It is rewarding for the girls to see the improvement that comes from putting in the time.”

The Wolverines close out the regular season at home against Aurora on Oct. 10.

“Our goal is to keep the momentum going as we finish out the season against Aurora next Wednesday and then look to have a strong showing in the playoffs,” Chapic said.
