Young Hawks ready to learn

Hawken returns three starters from last season but the Hawks will have a young roster. That leaves coach Jennifer Creech focused on the development of her players.

“We have a young team and I’m excited to shape the games of the returning as well as the new student-athletes,” Creech said. “We focus on improving scores around the green. Each player was asked what their ideal score for 9-holes would be. We will focus on accomplishing this by becoming smarter golfers around the green.”

Rachel Slotta, Juliana Pollard and Lauren Ellis return to the starting lineup.

Slotta, a junior, finished 13th at sectionals last season while Ellis placed 37th.

“A junior returning player will help lead the young team,” Creech said of Slotta.

Freshman Ella Wong will make an immediate impact for the Hawks. She shot a 78 over the summer.

“(She is) a competitive golfer who played on the junior golf tours and wants to work on her game,” Creech said.
