Beachwood’s boys’ cross country team opened the 2021 season with a dominating win at the Hawken Invitational on Saturday.
The Bison finished with 28 points while second-place Lake Ridge Academy scored 51. Wickliffe (110) and Independence (120) placed third and fourth, respectively, while Hawken was seventh with 152.
Wickliffe junior Brady Pugh won the individual title with a time of 18:37.
Beachwood placed five runners among the top 10 including Gregory Perryman (2nd, 18:59), Caleb Berns (4th, 19:18), David Steckner (5th, 19:30), Max Kuenzler (7th, 19:38), and Grant Wessler (10th, 20:17).
Independence freshman Sam Crooks placed 11th with a time of 20:27. Beachwood’s Vincent Crenshaw (13th, 20:35) and Wickliffe’s Giovanni Hernandez (14th, 20:38) also placed among the top 20.
Hawken’s girls’ team finished second to Magnificat. The Hawks scored 38 points while the Blue Streaks crossed the finish line with 35.
Independence was fifth (147), Perry was seventh (167), and Wickliffe finished eighth (171).
Hawken freshman Brielle Collins took home the individual title with a time of 20:19. Independence’s Alana Nowak (3rd, 21:25) and Hawken’s Elena Padley (4th, 21:52) were close behind.
Hawken’s Camilla Mari (9th, 23:15), Delicia Liao (11th, 23:25), Sofia Boyd (13th, 23:31), Gaby Montero (19th, 24:14), and Lorelai Goedecke (20th, 24:21), and Wickliffe’s Tori Stiles (14th, 23:45) also finished among the top 20.
Perry’s top finisher was Lili Lawrence, who placed 26th in 26:19.
