Cardinal sweeps Fairport

Cardinal opened Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division play with a dominating win at Fairport Harding on Thursday.

The Huskies won the three sets, 25-11, 25-18, 25-14, to improve to 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in league play.

“I tried a bunch of different lineups tonight because we need to have back up plan if things don’t go well for us,” said Cardinal coach Karisca Chambers. “I told the girls to be ready at any time to switch things up if need be. They adjusted very well to the changes and it proved to me that there are players who can play in any spot.”

Kaylee Klepper and Camille Cummins both finished with seven kills for the Huskies. Alaina Strever led Cardinal with 12 digs and Haley Domen posted a team-high 16 assists.

“Tonight was a good night collectively for us,” Chambers said. “I thought everyone had a good game. We still need to clean up some of our errors, but overall we controlled the tempo tonight. I’m excited to see what we do this weekend at our tri-meet.”

Cardinal travels to Chardon on Saturday to play the Hilltoppers and Bay.

Fairport (0-2) travels to Richmond Heights on Tuesday.
