Chagrin Falls’ girls’ cross country team and seven individuals from the Chagrin Valley Conference are headed to the state cross country meet at National Trail Raceway in Hebron on Saturday.
The Tigers finished sixth at the Division II Boardman regional to lock up the final team qualification spot. Rose Hoelzel (20th, 19:52), Hannah Clark (24th, 20:06) and Azzurra Opperman (31st, 20:30) all finished among the top 40 for the Tigers. Claire Stinson (66th, 21:17), Eliza Larkin (83rd, 21:36), Madeleine Scott (87th, 21:39) and Claire Coffey (113rd, 22:30) also ran for Chagrin Falls.
Hawken’s Ella Gilson, the defending Division II state champion, won her second straight district title with a time of 18:19, which was 36 seconds faster than she ran last fall. She’ll be joined at state by teammate Juliana Metz, who placed 15th in 19:43.
Geneva’s Elizabeth Joy and West Geauga’s Grace Gyetko also earned a trip to state with their top 24 finishes. Joy placed 12th in 19:38 and Gyetko was 14th in 19:42.
West Geauga’s Patrick Garrett also qualified for state by finishing 24th in the Division II boys’ race. He ran a time of 17:03.
In Division I, Geneva’s Jacob Mirabell placed among the top 32 to punch his ticket to state. He finished 26th in 16:39.
Independence’s Emily Skoczen was the only Division III runner from the CVC to extend her week. She finished 12th in 20:24.
