Athletes from Harvey, Hawken, Orange, and West Geauga have been named the Chagrin Valley Conference Players of the Week for the week ending February 10.
Each player was nominated by his or her coach.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Name: Marco Formichelli
School: West Geauga
Grade: 12
Stats: Scored 40 points with seven 3-pointers and a game-winning assist in two games
Coach’s Quote: “We have been looking for someone to step up this season and Marco has done just that the past couple of weeks,” West Geauga coach Jeff Javorek said. “Marco was able to consistently knock down shots in the past two games that really led our team offensively. We knew as a coaching staff that Marco has had this potential all season and we’re excited for him to have success.”
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Name: Kayden Lawson
School: Orange
Grade: 11
Stats: Scored 44 points with 29 rebounds, 18 assists, 9 steals and 7 blocks in two games
Coach’s Quote: “Dominating performances to help the Lions contend for a CVC title,” Orange coach Ship Collins said.
Name: Nevada Melton
School: Harvey
Grade: 12
Stats: Scored 51 point with 21 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocked shots in two games
Coach’s Quote: “Nevada’s versatility is what makes her such a special player,” Harvey coach Jerimie Acree said. “She can play any position on the court both offensively and defensively. Our program will definitely miss her after this year.”

Stats: Averaged 10 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals in three games
Coach’s Quote: “Makayla is the type of player whose impact on a game transcends the box score,” Hawken coach David Murray said. “It is impossible to quantify how important she is to our team on both ends of the court. She is a consummate competitor, dedicated teammate, and outstanding member of the Hawken community.”
SWIMMING
Name: John Byrne
School: Hawken
Grade: 12
Stats: Won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events at the sectional swim meet
Coach’s Quote: “John easily won his two events at Friday’s sectional meet,” Hawken coach Todd Clark said. “His confidence and drive is so important to our boys’ team. For Hawken, John is the difference maker on the team and his teammates follow his lead.”
Name: Abby Hay
School: Hawken
Grade: 12
Stats: Won the sectional championship in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley
Coach’s Quote: “Abby is always ready to go when it’s championship time,” Hawken coach Todd Clark said. “The sectional meet on Friday was no exception as she won her two events and swam critical relay legs. I am really looking forward to her performances in the coming weeks at the district and state championships.”
WRESTLING
Name: Jackson Reineke
School: Hawken
Grade: 11
Stats: Finished 5-0 during the week and picked up his 100th career victory
Coach’s Quote: “Jackson has been a pleasure to work with,” Hawken coach Bob Rodriguez said. “He is a leader in our room and a hard worker who is constantly looking to improve his skills. We are very pleased for Jackson as he has reached this milestone in his junior year. He becomes only the seventh Hawken wrestler to reach this milestone.”
