Three Chagrin Valley Conference boys’ basketball teams got off to fast starts in securing wins on Wednesday.
Cuyahoga Heights 58, Berkshire 47
After battling to a 13-13 tie in the first quarter, Cuyahoga Heights drained six 3-pointers in the second to take a 35-21 lead into the break. Berkshire pulled to within four points in the fourth quarter, but the Red Wolves held on for the win.
Nate Biggers led the Red Wolves with a game-high 23 points and Braylan McClardy and Cade Davies also scored in double figures with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Mason Mendolera led Berkshire with 19 points and Jack Hastings finished with 16.
Edgewood 69, Grand Valley 36
Edgewood outscored the Mustangs in the first quarter, 16-4, and never looked back. The Warriors led at halftime, 36-16, and outscored Grand Valley in the second half, 33-20.
Zack Vencill led Edgewood with 23 points and Brady Andrejack also reached double figures with 13.
Jerry Schultz and Nate Boiarski scored in double figures for Grand Valley with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Beachwood 68, Andrews-Osborne Academy 40
Beachwood opened the season with a dominating win over Andrews-Osborne on Wednesday.
The Bison used a 28-point second quarter to build a 42-18 halftime lead.
Josh Jones led all scorers with 19 points and Noah Page finished with 16. Nathan Lurie also scored in double figures with 16.
Orange 56, Lake Ridge Academy 38
Devin Belle and Dominic Anekwe both scored 20 points to lead Orange to a 56-38 win over Lake Ridge Academy.
The Lions led 9-6 after the first quarter and then created some separation by outscoring their opponents in the second quarter, 20-9.
Ernest Pryor added 10 points for the Lions and Henry Bonner finished with five.
