CVC Football Roundup

Week 6 is in the books and Chagrin Valley Conference races are taking shape and several teams kept alive their undefeated seasons.

Kirtland and Perry both improved to 6-0 overall while the Hornets, Pirates, Beachwood, Chagrin Falls, Cuyahoga Heights, Geneva, Independence and Lutheran West all remained unbeaten in league play.

Here’s a look at how each CVC team fared this week.

Beachwood 20, Wickliffe 13

Beachwood outscored Wickliffe in the third quarter, 13-0, to pull away from the Blue Devils. Dawann Gray ran for 66 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bison. Desmond Horne also ran for a score. Isaiah Bolon and Evan Rypinski scored touchdowns for the Blue Devils.

Chagrin Falls 47, Edgewood 8

The Tigers entered the game averaging around 45 points per game. They scored that in the first half as they rolled to a big win over Edgewood.

Cuyahoga Heights 42, Fairport Harding 6

Sam Shafer threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Redskins ran for four scores and returned a fumble for another in downing the Skippers. Fairport’s Justice Bartley scored on a pass from Will Fazekas to close out the scoring.

Geneva 42, West Geauga 14

West Geauga scored on its first two possessions of the game but Geneva wore down the Wolverines with a running game that amassed 378 yards on the ground. Riley Huge led West Geauga with 263 passing yards but just 41 of those came in the second half. Blake Peet and Charles Taylor led the Eagles on the ground with 142 and 140 yards rushing, respectively.

Hawken 28, Grand Valley 21

Zach Miller ran for 216 yards on 34 carries and scored a touchdown to lead Hawken to its second win of the season. Terrence Robinson also threw three TD passes for the Hawks. Grand Valley’s Gordon Seger also threw three touchdown passes in the game and finished with 134 passing yards.

Independence 47, Richmond Heights 8

Injuries forced Kyle Zygmunt to move to running back and the Blue Devils might want to keep him there after he ran for four touchdowns and was on the receiving end of a touchdown pass from Michael Tommer. Zygmunt also picked off a pass. Kyle Rucker threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Rico McPherson to get the Spartans on the scoreboard.

Kirtland 56, Cardinal 0

Luke Gardner scored four rushing touchdowns in Kirtland’s first 11 offensive plays to lead the Hornets, who ran for 444 yards in the game. Gardner finished with 197 yards on six carries. Mason Sullivan also ran for 148 yards and a touchdown for the Hornets.

Lakeside 68, Harvey 62 (2ot)

Tyrell Meeks ran for six touchdowns to lead Lakeside to a double-overtime win over longtime rival Harvey. Not to be outdone, Harvey’s Gil Hammond scored six touchdowns for the Red Raiders.

Lutheran West 30, Berkshire 7

Eddie Lewis ran for 100 yards and scored two touchdowns and Jonathan Bradley also scored twice for the Longhorns. Blake Jenkins returned an interception 35 yards for Berkshire’s only score of the game.

Perry 71, Orange 20
