Hawken girls win Chagrin Division tennis tournament

PERRY—Hawken won three of five individual titles on the way to clinching the 2023 Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division tournament championship on Saturday at Perry High School.

The Hawks finished with 32 points to beat out Orange for the top spot. The Lions scored 27 points, Chagrin Falls finished third with 25, Beachwood was fourth with 24, Perry placed fifth with 14, West Geauga finished sixth with 10, and Crestwood rounded out the top seven with eight points.

Hawken won at first and third singles and first doubles.

Dani Forte went 2-0 to win at first singles. She defeated Lyla Breeden of Chagrin Falls, 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinals and then beat Orange’s Daniela DeMata Hicano in the championship, 6-0, 6-1.

Bella Hsieh went 3-0 to win first singles. She opened the tournament with 6-0, 6-0 wins over Perry’s Hailey Green and Beachwood’s Jessie Gao, and then upset top-seeded Raina Patel of Orange in the finals, 6-4, default.

Hawken’s first doubles team of Hayley Garber and Bea Hardacre won their title with 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 wins.

The Hawks added a runner-up finish at second singles and placed third in second doubles.

Orange’s Lily Guiler claimed the second singles title and Beachwood’s Ida Chang and Arianna Preston teamed up to win the second doubles title.

They opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Orange’s Reese Balding and Frances Owen, and then topped Hawken’s doubles team in the championship match, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
