Hawken, Independence, Geneva win postseason tournament titles

CONCORD–Hawken, Independence, and Geneva opened the postseason with wins at the Chagrin Valley Conference tournament at Quail Hollow Golf Course on Monday.

Hawken won the Chagrin Division with 332 strokes, 19 ahead of second-place Chagrin Falls. Independence claimed the Metro Division title with 345 strokes while Beachwood was second with 363. Geneva finished first in the Valley Division with 360 strokes. Edgewood placed second with 381.

Kirtland’s Victor Alfieri won medalist honors in the Chagrin Division with a tournament-low 75. Teammate Aaron Shultz also placed among the top 10 as he finished tied for eighth with an 85.

Other Chagrin Division golfers to place among the top 10 included Perry’s Julian Fodor (2nd, 79), Hawken’s Peyton O’Keefe (3rd, 81), Cooper Bryan (4th, 82), Jack Zeid (t5th, 83), and Quinn Petersen (t10th, 86); Orange’s Jack Stover (t5th, 83); and Chagrin Falls’ Henry Westendorf (t5th, 83) Charlie Pollock (8th, 85), and Sven Nielsen (t10th, 86).

Independence’s Mark Pillar and James O’Neil both shot an 80 to share medalist honors in the Metro Division.

Other Metro Division golfers to place among the top 10 included Beachwood’s Matt Blumenthal (3rd, 81); Independence’s Sam Coddington (t4th, 84), Charlie DeCapua (t6th, 86), and A.J. Marcinko (t10th, 95); Wickliffe’s Calvin Cackowski (4th, 84) and Ryan Latkovich (t10th, 95); Lutheran West’s D.J. Robinson (t6th, 86) and Ashten Sopko (t8th, 89); and Cuyahoga Height’s Kaelib Graff (9th, 93) and Brady Pinter (t10th, 95).

Geneva’s Ayden Richmond claimed the top spot in the Valley Division. Richmond shot a division-best 80.

Others to finish among the top 10 were Edgewood’s Jimmy Johnston and Mason Feather (t2nd, 86); Cardinal’s Connor Callison (t4th, 87) and Matthew Hissa (10th, 98); Grand Valley’s Hagan Hejduk (4th, 87); Geneva’s Connor Anderson (6th, 88), Hunter Metz and Kole Opalko (t7th, 96); and Lakeside’s Jack Varckette (t7th, 96).
