Hawken’s Drew Covitt wins sectional title

Hawken’s Drew Covitt shot a tournament-low 72 to win the Division II sectional golf tournament at Quail Hollow Golf Course on Monday.

Led by Covitt, Hawken finished second with 336 strokes. Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin clinched the team title with 312 and Lake Catholic finished third with 339. The top three teams advance to next week’s district tournament at Windmill Lakes in Ravenna.

Hawken’s other scorers included Thomas Wong and Quinn Petersen (87) and Thomas Hill (90). Cooper Bryan carded a 92 for the Hawks.

Edgewood, West Geauga, Orange, Perry and Kirtland finished among the top 10 and Berkshire and Wickliffe also competed.

Perry’s Nick Carnovale shot a 79 to finish seventh overall and Edgewood’s Ryan Green and West Geauga’s Travis Johnson finished with an 80 and an 84 to place eighth and ninth, respectively. All three qualified for the district meet as individuals.
