A full 80 minutes wasn’t enough for Cuyahoga Heights or Wickliffe to settle their on-field dispute as Wednesday’s game resulted in a 1-1 tie.
“Cuyahoga Heights always provides a battle for us in (Chagrin Valley Conference) play,” Wickliffe coach Steve Gribovicz said. “This game was no different as both teams had to push themselves to reach this result.”
Reagan Sturgill scored on a penalty kick to give Cuyahoga Heights a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Blue Devils tied it late in the second half when Morgan Gabriel finished off a touch from Annabella Stoehr.
“Morgan Gabriel’s goal to tie the game up with 15 minutes left was a big momentum play for us,” Gribovicz said. “She played a nice give-and-go with Annabella Stoehr to spring the opportunity and placed it nicely in the left side of the goal.”
Kaylee Lauriel recorded eight saves in the tie and Jaime Orndorff also sparked the Blue Devils.
“Jaime Orndoff’s aggressive play in the second half helped us gain more possession and push upfield a bit more to attack for opportunities we didn’t have in the first half,” Gribovicz said. “Kaylee Lauriel played another phenomenal game in goal that helped preserve the tie for us.”
Cuyahoga Heights goalkeeper Megan Ellis finished the night with four saves.
