Hope leads Harvey past John Hay

Matt Hope allowed just two hits in 6 2/3 innings of work to lead Harvey to a 12-5 win at John Hay on Thursday.

“This game will give us a little confidence as we go into conference play next week against West Geauga,” Harvey coach Mark McNamara said. “Matt Hope pitched a good game hitting his spots. He did a great job mixing up his pitches to keep opposing batters off balance.”

Hope allowed five runs and struck out five in the contest.

Andrew Pillar led the Red Raiders with a pair of hits and a run batted in. He also scored two runs.

Nate Overbey was 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored and Ricardo Valadez was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBI.

“Offensively, the team was able to work on hitting the ball in the opposite direction,” McNamara said. “This was the perfect opportunity for these kids to find the open spots in the defense and place the ball there.”
