MIDDLEFIELD—A 3-2 home loss to Kirtland on Sept. 5 didn’t sit well with the Cardinal volleyball team.
The Huskies, who had lost to Wickliffe two days before, did some soul-searching and have restored their pride and tradition in the second half of the Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division schedule. On Thursday, they avenged that loss to the Hornets with a 3-0 sweep on Kirtland’s home gym.
Cardinal won the match 25-8, 25-19, 25-22 to knock the Hornets out of a first-play tie with Grand Valley in the Valley Division.
Taylor Soltis led the Huskies with 20 digs, Haley Domen posted a team-high 30 assists and Jessie Proch added a team-best 12 kills. Andrea Mack contributed with nine kills, four blocks and a pair of service aces and Grace Whitney dominated at the service line with seven aces and she also contributed with 10 digs.
With the win, Cardinal improved to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in league play. Kirtland dropped to 15-4, 7-2. The Hornets still can earn a share of the league title if they beat Fairport Harding and Cardinal wins at Grand Valley on Oct. 8.
