Huskies claim second win of the year

MIDDLEFIELD—Cardinal’s second-year girls’ soccer program continued to show improvement with a 3-2 win over visiting Villa Angela-St. Joseph on Wednesday.

Mya Revak scored one goal and Anna Blubaugh found the back of the net twice for the Huskies in the win.

“This was a pretty big win,” said Cardinal coach Brian Gallagher. “We tied last year’s win (total). Today, we saw a lot of big things, the passing back and the crossing. It wasn’t a lot of breakaway goals.”

The Huskies close out the regular season on Thursday at Kinsman Badger.

“This was a good win going into Badger,” Gallagher said. “It’s a good confidence-booster. We just have to continue playing and getting better.”

Collecting another win provided the Huskies with some positive momentum heading into the postseason.

Cardinal opens the Division III Warren District on Monday at Conneaut in a sectional semifinal.

“I told the girls, ‘You go out and play with heart and build off each win and build off each goal,’” Gallagher said. “If we’re competitive and give ourselves a chance at Conneaut, it’s the playoffs and anything can happen. If that works out, we end up playing back at Burton.”
