Wolverines battle to 1-1 draw with Aurora

West Geauga closed the regular season with a 1-1 draw against visiting Aurora on Wednesday.

The Wolverines, who finished 8-4-3, raised $675 for The Gathering Place in Beachwood during the Kick for the Cure game against the Greenmen.

“I am proud of the progress this team has shown this season and look forward to the upcoming postseason,” said West Geauga coach Kori Chapic.

West Geauga took a 1-0 lead into the break when Nicola Ehrbar finished off a through ball from Jenna Hoeh.

“Nicola got us started with a great shot to the far post past an aggressive Aurora keeper right before the end of the first half,” Chapic said. “Jenna set up the goal with a great through ball.”

Aurora tied it in the 58th minute when Emma Krondorfer placed a free kick just under the crossbar.

Sarah Grinstead recorded two saves for the Wolverines.

“Madison Allegretti, Aubrey Zanella, Bella Burkhard and Emily Allegretti played solid defense all night and consistently stopped the Aurora attack,” Chapic said. “Jenna Hoeh led the defense against several Aurora corner kicks. At one point she cleared three consecutive corners with headers that eliminated the dangerous crosses from the box.”

The Wolverines, the No. 4 seed in the Division II Mentor District, open postseason play on Oct. 18 against the winner of the No. 5 Geneva and No. 12 Jefferson sectional semifinal.
