Independence falls to JFK in regional quarterfinal

INDEPENDENCE—A 41-7 loss to visiting Warren JFK ended Independence’s first playoff berth in a decade but reaching the postseason will serve as inspiration for future squads.

“Seniors, this is your legacy,” Independence coach Rick Adams told his team after the game. “Underclassmen, it’s your job to make sure it doesn’t take another 10 years to get back here. I’m proud of all of you.”

JFK scored the first 14 points of the game before Kyle Zygmunt broke free on a 77-yard scoring run to pull the Blue Devils within seven points with just 17 seconds left in the opening quarter.

The Eagles scored the next 27 points to end Independence’s season at 8-5.
