CHAGRIN FALLS—Mick Lawrence ran for a game-high 137 yards and two touchdowns to lead Chagrin Falls to a 14-0 win over visiting Beachwood on Friday.
The win was the fourth straight for the Tigers, who improved to 4-5 on the year.
“We’ve been on a roll,” Chagrin Falls coach Mark Iammarino said. “We had won the last three games and when that happens the team develops some confidence. They really start believing in themselves and it makes for a better practice. Obviously, high school kids get motivated by that because they see your plan is working and what we’re trying to do.”
Lawrence broke a scoreless tie with a 15-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give Chagrin Falls a 7-0 lead. He added a seven-yard scoring run in the third quarter to close out the scoring.
“We made a couple of adjustments,” Iammarino said. “We moved Mick Lawrence from a receiver to a running back so we guarantee he’s going to touch the ball 20 times a game. We also brought in Dawson Pierce in at quarterback and that gives us the big run opportunity there.”
Chagrin Falls outgained Beachwood, 211-64, in holding an opponent scoreless for the second straight game.
“We gave up a few yards but we kept them out of the end zone,” Iammarino said. “We moved the ball, we had a couple of times we stalled in the red zone, but I liked the way we moved the ball. That’s eight straight quarters of shutouts. Our defense has played much better. One is kind of helping the other.”
The victory was the 175th of Iammarino’s career.
“Our kids work really, really hard,” Iammarino said. “It was senior night, their last opportunity on Harris Stadium, so you knew the kids were really going to play hard. I really liked the way we played. I thought we were physical.”
Daniel Wise was 2-for-2 on extra point tries.
Kendyn Wiggins led Beachwood with 42 rushing yards on 19 carries.
