Shirkey powers Cardinal past Richmond Heights

MIDDLEFIELD—Trey Shirkey ran for 195 yards and four touchdowns to lead Cardinal to a 36-14 win over visiting Richmond Heights on Friday.

Shirkey scored two touchdowns in the second quarter as the Huskies built a 20-6 halftime lead then he added two more scores in the third quarter to put the game away.

Rico McPherson ran for a four-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give Richmond Heights an early 6-0 lead. McPherson finished the game with 136 yards on 21 carries.

Shirkey responded with touchdown runs of three and 77 runs. He also added a two-point conversion to give the Huskies a 14-6 lead.

Matt Carney then threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Brice Hogue to make it 20-6.

Shirkey ran for touchdowns of 29 and three yards in the third quarter to close out the Cardinal scoring.

Richmond Heights added a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

Cardinal improved to 3-6 on the year and will close out the season at home against rival Berkshire on Friday. Richmond Heights dropped to 3-6. The Spartans close out the year at Fairport Harding next week.
