Lutheran West knocks off Independence

Monday’s Chagrin Valley Conference postseason tournament became a bit more interesting after Lutheran West’s two-stroke win over previously undefeated Independence on Thursday.

The Longhorns beat the defending league champion Blue Devils, 192-194.

“I am very proud of the girls for the way they bounced back after a disappointing loss to Chagrin Falls on Tuesday,” Lutheran West coach Dave Ressler said. “Our putting was very much improved and we didn’t make the mental mistakes today. Playing at home is always an advantage and the girls really put together a solid game plan for the match tonight. Independence is a great team and is still the favorites to win conference, but the girls proved tonight that they are in the hunt as well.”

Senior Samantha Webb carded a 3-over to claim medalist honors and junior Callie Wabeke finished with a 45. Sophomore Julia Colton posted a 51 and senior Nadia Kauntz rounded out the scoring with a 57.

Allie Ksiazka led Independence with a 45. Morgan Pascarella (47), Reese Vilcheck (50) and Molly McGreal (52) also scored for the Blue Devils.

“It is always fun to play with Independence,” Ressler said. “They are well-coached and heir girls are very respectful and encouraging to our team.”
