McGinnis leads West Geauga to sectional title

CHESTERLAND—Megan McGinnis scored three goals in leading West Geauga to a 6-0 win over visiting Crestwood in a Division II sectional championship game on Thursday.

McGinnis, who now has 16 goals on the season, scored all three of her goals in the first 25 minutes of the first half.

It took just 3 ½ minutes for her to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead and then she scored her second 10 minutes later off of a Frankie Flesher assist. Her third goal came with 16:46 left in the first half.

Flesher scored her team-leading 19th goal of the season with less than two minutes remaining in the half to push the Wolverine lead to 4-0 at the break.

Holly Jeunnette scored her second goal of the season early in the second half and Flesher closed out the scoring three minutes later.

Jeunnette, Flesher, and Riley Spryn all recorded assists in the win and Ashlyn Drayer and Shannon Swinerton combined on a shutout. Drayer notched five saves while Swinerton blocked three shots.

Crestwood’s Kylie Krupp finished the game with 10 saves.

The sixth-seeded Wolverines, who improved to 8-3-6 on the year, advanced to play at No. 2 Canfield in a district semifinal on Oct. 25.
