Mustangs ace midterm exam

MIDDLEFIELD—At the midpoint of the conference season, Grand Valley stands alone at the top of the Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division standings.

With their 3-1 win at defending champion Cardinal on Thursday, the Mustangs improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in league play.

Grand Valley won the first set, 25-18, before the Huskies tied the match with a 25-23 win in the second. The Mustangs won the next two, 25-20 and 28-26 to seal the match.

Barbara Jackson led Grand Valley with 23 kills and six blocks. Rylie Pucel pitched in with 11 kills and 30 assists and Brandy Smith added 27 digs and eight kills. Alexis Cooper led the team with 21 assists, Hallie Soltis contributed with 15 digs and three blocks and Madison Roskos finished with a pair of blocks.

Grand Valley travels to Edgewood on Sept. 16 while Cardinal (6-4, 2-3) plays at Hawken on Saturday.

Haley Adams is a 2016 graduate of Cardinal High School. She is currently in her third year at Hiram College with a major in Communications and a minor in Writing. Haley, a three-sport standout at Cardinal, has participated in many athletic events at Hiram and plans to become a sports broadcaster.
