Perry edges Geneva for CVC Valley tournament title

Perry swept each of the three singles competitions and earned enough points from its doubles teams to edge Geneva for the Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division tennis tournament title.

The Pirates finished with 22 points while Geneva was second with 21. Lakeside rounded out the top three with 17 points.

Lily Walker claimed the first singles title with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lakeside’s Kait Toth. Anna Fletcher won at second singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Geneva’s Cynthia Seames and Nikki Rosati beat Geneva’s Mackenzie DiPofi, the top seed, at third singles, 7-6, 6-0.

Perry also earned points in both doubles competitions with Emily Schueren and Hannah Green placing third at first doubles and Tessa Moats and Claire Scales teaming up to finish second at second doubles.

Geneva’s Maddie Fortney and Amelia Riddell claimed the first doubles title with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Lakeside’s Kasidy Baumgartner and Illiana Mullen and Geneva’s Lauren Stark and Emily Drees won at second doubles. They beat Perry’s Moats and Scales, 6-3, 6-3.

He also created and publishes, an online publication dedicated to providing hyperlocal coverage to area high school athletic programs. Hare began covering high school sports for the Lake County News Herald in 1997. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986.
