Wickliffe picked up its second shutout of the season with a 3-0 win at Perry on Saturday.
Annabella Stoehr, Mia Welms and Morgan Gabriel each scored a goal for the Blue Devils, who improved to 5-4.
“We looked very sound in this game,” Wickliffe coach Steve Gribovicz said. “We played with patience and were able to build our attack up, rather than just run onto long passes.”
The Blue Devils led 1-0 at halftime, a fortunate circumstance given the intensity the Pirates played with.
“Our play in the last 15 minutes of the first half made a difference,” Gribovicz said. “Perry had been on the attack most of the time up until that mark, but we were able to start connecting on some outside plays that changed the momentum and resulted in a corner kick opportunity delivered in by Morgan Gabriel that Annabella Stoehr was able to head into the net.”
Wickliffe added two second-half goals, one assisted by Clare Andrykovitch, to close out the win.
Kaylee Lauriel recorded four saves for Wickliffe while Perry’s Elle Infalvi finished with three.
