Perry leads Courage All-Stars to win in Underclassmen Showcase

PEPPER PIKE—Brush’s Jenna Perry scored 16 points to lead the Courage All-Stars to a 79-73 win over the Service All-Stars in the 2018 Ohio Varsity Underclassmen Showcase presented by ScoreStream.com at Ursuline College on Sunday.

Perry used two second half 3-pointers to help the Courage All-Stars pull away for the win.

Hawken’s Carly Perusek and Kirtland’s Jenna Sayle both contributed 14 points in the win and Mayfield’s Katelyn Kinczel finished with 11 and a runner-up finish to Mayfield teammate Julia DeBaltzo in the halftime 3-point shooting contest.

West Geauga’s Nicola Ehrbar led the Service All-Stars with 16 points and Chardon’s Halle Landies and North’s Destiny Leo both contributed with 12.

Geneva’s Abby Carter was named the Ohio Varsity Freshman of the Year. She scored nine points for the Courage All-Stars.

Cardinal’s Luke Kruse coached the winning team and Berkshire’s Dennis Lory guided the Service All-Stars in the event that serves as an official fundraiser for The Wounded Warrior Project. Each team name represents one of the WWP’s core values.

Hare began covering high school sports for the Lake County News Herald in 1997. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986. He played football, wrestled and was an all-Geauga county baseball player (1986). He lives in Chardon with his wife Paulette and their children.
