Spartans race past Blue Devils

Gbolahan Adio scored a game-high 24 points in leading Richmond Heights to a 72-33 win over Independence in a Division IV district semifinal at Norton High School on Monday.

Adio drained a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Spartans built a 24-13 lead. He added two more 3s in the second half.

Jevontae Jones and Josiah Harris also scored in double figures for the Spartans with 13 and 12, respectively. Jamarr Talbert contributed to the win with nine points and Illan Armstrong added eight.

The top-seeded Spartans advanced to Friday’s district championship game against the winner of Tuesday’s matchup between No. 3 Dalton and No. 7 Rittman.

Richmond Heights won the district title last winter on the way to reaching the state semifinals, where they lost to eventual state champion Convoy Crestview.

Matt Richards led Independence with eight points and Kyle Zygmunt, Adam Miklovic and Wyatt Flynn each scored six.

Independence closed out its season at 16-6.
