For the fourth straight season, Chagrin Falls’ girls’ 4×800-meter relay team stood atop the podium at the OHSAA Division II state track & field meet.
Senior Catherine Coffey, junior Hannah Clark and freshmen Claire Coffey and Rose Hoelzel won the state championship with a time of 9:18.20. For Claire Coffey, the state championship was her fourth straight as she was part of the winning teams in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Clark won her second straight 4×800 title.
With that win, the Tigers finished Day 1 tied for first place with 10 points.
Also earning a spot on the podium was Beachwood’s Maddie Alexander, who placed sixth in the high jump by clearing 5-feet, 3-inches.
Chagrin Falls’ Mick Lawrence finished 10th in the long jump (20-7) and Perry’s Javin Richards and Tyler Silvis both competed in the pole vault. Richards finished 14th with a best height of 13-6.
In Division III, Cuyahoga Heights’ Kyel Wolff and Independence’s Robert Artrip both earned All-Ohio honors in the pole vault.
Wolff finished fourth (14-4) and Artrip was seventh (14-0).
Artrip also finished ninth in the discus, one spot away from all-state honors. He threw the disc 150-feet, 7-inches. Teammate Luke Clymer placed 10th with a best throw of 149-9.
Independence’s 4×800-meter relay team of Emily Skoczen, Erica Esper, Andrea Klima and Paige Westerburg placed 14th (10:00.47) and Cuyahoga Heights’ Acacia May finished 13th in the pole vault (10-0).
The action continues on Saturday.
