Tillett paces Redskins at Early Bird Invitational

BURTON—Led by junior Darien Tillett, Cuyahoga Heights finished in sixth place at the 2019 Berkshire Early Bird Invitational at the Geauga County Fairgrounds on Aug. 24.

Tillett placed ninth overall with a time of 16:29.

Junior Devon Patel also medaled for the Redskins with a 46th-place finish in 18:22.

Charlie Nieczar (18:34), Nate Menkhaus (18:55), Jon Nejman (19:04), Jacob Casey (20:42) and Camden Pluth (20:59) also ran for the Redskins.

Cuyahoga Heights did not score as a team in the girls’ race but Alana Castro (27:22), Emily D’Onfrio (31:56), Purva Chauhan (33:27), Monica Menkhaus (33:55), Victoria Kattler (34;16) and Olivia Santiago (34:24) competed in the event.

While the Redskins turned in a strong performance on the course, their shining moment was off of it as they were recognized for their sportsmanship in remaining at the finish line until the final runner completed the race.

Haley Adams
Haley Adams is a 2016 graduate of Cardinal High School. She is currently in her third year at Hiram College with a major in Communications and a minor in Writing. Haley, a three-sport standout at Cardinal, has participated in many athletic events at Hiram and plans to become a sports broadcaster.
