WEEK 8: CVC Football Roundup

Mason Sullivan ran for 242 yards and six touchdowns to lead Kirtland to a 49-14 win over visiting Beachwood in the biggest Chagrin Valley Conference game of Week 8.

Geneva and Lutheran West both pitched shutouts and Kirtland and Perry remained undefeated with wins on Friday.

Here’s a look at how each CVC team fared in Week 8:

Berkshire 46, Hawken 14

Ryan Pennypacker and Jack Kuhen combined for 507 rushing yards to lead Berkshire to its sixth win of the season. Kuhen led the Badgers with 253 yards and a pair of scores and Pennypacker added 245 and four touchdowns. Terrence Robinson completed 22-of-41 passes for 220 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Cardinal 54, Grand Valley 7

Joey Soltis threw for three touchdowns and Zach Czako and Morgan Hershberger both ran for a pair of scores as the Huskies snapped a two-game skid. The Huskies also picked off three passes in the win.

Chagrin Falls 27, Orange 13

Dawson Pierce threw for 122 yards and a touchdown and he also ran for a score as the Tigers held off Orange. Xavier Perez also scored a touchdown and Andrew Kirkpatrick booted field goals of 31 and 20 yards for the Tigers. Diante White led Orange with 137 rushing yards on 21 carries.

Cuyahoga Heights 49, Richmond Heights 8

Austin Knaack ran for two scores and returned an interception 38 yards for another touchdown and Kyle Polack also rushed for a pair of touchdowns to lead Cuyahoga Heights to the victory. Sam Shafer ran for a score and Nolan Frye scooped up a fumble and returned it for the Redskins’ second defensive touchdown of the game.

Geneva 50, Harvey 0

Charles Taylor and Blake Peet both ran for over 100 yards and combined for five touchdowns in Geneva’s shutout win over Harvey. Taylor led the Eagles with 127 yards on five touchdowns and he scored twice. Peet carried nine times for 118 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Independence 40, Fairport 14

Jake Mitrisin caught four passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns in the first half and Kyle Zygmunt ran for two scores to lead Independence to its sixth win. Michael Tommer threw two touchdown passes in the win. Cody Paugh led the Skippers with 64 rushing yards on eight carries.

Kirtland 49, Beachwood 14

Mason Sullivan ran for 242 yards and six touchdowns to lead Kirtland to a win over Beachwood in the conference’s biggest matchup of the weekend. Kirtland improved to 8-0 while Beachwood dropped to 6-2. Dawann Gray’s third-quarter touchdown snapped Kirtland’s 23-quarter streak of holding opponents scoreless.

Lutheran West 47, Brooklyn 0

Perry 51, Lakeside 20

Drew Schiano threw for 154 yards and three touchdowns and Jaylen Anderson added 150 yards on the ground with one touchdown as Perry remained undefeated through eight weeks. Anderson also caught a touchdown pass and returned a fumble for another score. Lakeside’s J’Shon Sanders ran for 109 yards and three second-half scores.

West Geauga 31, Edgewood 6

Michael Cavasinni and Joseph Peterson both ran for two scores in leading West Geauga back to .500 The Wolverines led 21-6 at halftime then held the Warriors scoreless in the second half. Edgewood’s Zach Winchell threw for 85 yards and one touchdown.
