Wickliffe closes out regular season with 13th win

Wickliffe closed out the regular season on Monday with a 7-0 win over visiting Fuchs Mizrachi.

The win was the 13th of the season for the Blue Devils.

“We moved the ball around well and used team play to execute,” said Wickliffe coach Steve Gribovicz. “The team looked to get multiple players involved which helped keep possession that led to goals.”

Wickliffe led 5-0 at halftime.

Olivia Wills scored two goals while Joelle Banks, Melanie Tennant, Gianna Ranallo, Gabby Taylor and Maegan Andrykovitch each had one.

Gianna Ranallo recorded three assists in the win while Banks and Mia Welms both finished with one.

Kaylee Lauriel recorded one save in notching her 11th clean sheet of the season.

“Defensively, we were able to recover on some good runs by Fuchs Mizrachi players and keep the ball out of the danger zones,” Gribovicz said.

The Blue Devils, who improved to 13-2-1 and earned the No. 2 seed in the Division III Elyria District, next play on Oct. 18 against the winner of the sectional semifinal between No. 7 Wellington and No. 10 Trinity.

With a win, the Blue Devils would tie the school record of 14 wins set in 2017.
