Wickliffe stuns Cardinal

WICKLIFFE—Host Wickliffe rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat defending Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division champion Cardinal on Tuesday, 3-2.

The Blue Devils won the first set 25-22 then dropped the next two, 16-25, 23-25. They closed out the match with wins in the fourth and fifth sets, 25-17, 15-11.

Olivia Clark and Isabella DeVincentis led the Blue Devils with 10 kills each. Clark added 20 digs and DeVincentis finished with two service aces.

Katie Nemeth contributed to the win with 23 digs, eight kills and three aces.

Wickliffe improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Jessie Proch led Cardinal with 13 kills while Andrea Mack added eight and also finished with five blocks. Haley Domen added nine kills, 27 digs and 34 assists and Taylor Soltis recorded 28 digs. Alaina Strever pitched in with 15 digs.

Cardinal dropped to 4-2, 2-1.

Hare began covering high school sports for the Lake County News Herald in 1997. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986. He played football, wrestled and was an all-Geauga county baseball player (1986). He lives in Chardon with his wife Paulette and their children.
