A second-half goal led host Beachwood to a 1-0 win over Lutheran West on Thursday.
“This is one of those games that a coach loves to coach,” said Beachwood coach Dana Raponi. “It was a very exciting game on both the offenses and defensive end of the ball. I could not be more proud of how these girls stepped up, took charge, and played their hearts out on a very hot and humid evening. The dedication, the grits, and the will to win were truly thrilling to watch and an honor to coach.”
Alison Saghir’s 60th-minute finish was the difference in the contest.
“This was one of those textbook plays that we actually worked on in practice this week,” Raponi said. “It led to a very beautiful goal by Alison. I could not have asked for anything more.”
Maya Greller recorded 17 saves in notching the clean sheet.
With the win, Beachwood improved to 1-0 on the season.
“It is the first win of the season that came with the first game of the season, and that help sets the tone and boots the confidence for the games to come,” Raponi said. “We have a lot of growing to do, but we are on our way.”
