Beachwood tops Kirtland in district semifinal

BURTON—Beachwood swept Kirtland in a Division III district semifinal at Berkshire on Wednesday and will make its first appearance in a district championship game in school history on Saturday.

The Bison won the match 25-16, 25-16, 25-23.

“It feels as if we are getting better each match,” Beachwood coach Tiffany McFarland said. “Beachwood played with so much energy as if they had something to prove. Our offensive was our strongest tonight. We played with a lot of energy.”

Kyimani Miller and Damilola Aletor led the Bison with 13 and nine kills, respectively. Miller also was 9-for-9 from the service line and recorded eight digs. Aletor recorded six aces and Aaliyah Larry-Mitchell posted a team-high 15 digs.

The Bison, who improved to 21-1, will play 20-2 Crestwood in the district final on Saturday at Berkshire. The match is scheduled to being at 4:00 p.m.

“This is new for our program and we are enjoying every moment of it,” McFarland said. “I’m so proud of them and know that our hard work is paying off.”

Haley Adams is a 2016 graduate of Cardinal High School. She is currently in her third year at Hiram College with a major in Communications and a minor in Writing. Haley, a three-sport standout at Cardinal, has participated in many athletic events at Hiram and plans to become a sports broadcaster.
