Berkshire girls claim Valley Division crown

BURTON–Led by senior Madison Romask, Berkshire’s girls’ cross country team won the Valley Division title at the 2019 Chagrin Valley Conference championships at the Geauga County Fairgrounds on Saturday.

Romask earned first-team all-conference honors for the fourth consecutive season by finishing second with a time of 21:06, just seven seconds behind Valley Division winner Kristin Groppe of Lutheran West, who finished in 19:59.

Berkshire’s Maria Przybyla, Maitland Fuentes, and Gabby Adams also earned all-conference honors by finishing among the top 16 runners.

Przybyla was named first-team all-conference after finishing seventh in 22:00. Fuentes and Adams were named second-team with their ninth and 10th places finishes, respectively. Fuentes finished in 22:35 and Adams completed the race in 22:39.

Other first-team all-conference selections included Independence’s Emily Skoczen (3rd, 21:11) and Makenna McGhee (4th, 21:15), Lutheran West’s Groppe (1st, 19:59) and Paris Mather (5th, 21:45) and Kirtland’s Reilly Greenlee (6th, 21:49) and Julie Namciu (8th, 22:17).

Second-team placers included Wickliffe’s Makenna Sladky (11th, 22:42) and Tori Stiles (16th, 23:16), Grand Valley’s Annabell Hlebak (12th, 22:51), Independence’s Josie Lee (13th, 23:06) and Lutheran West’s Kellie Roach (14th, 23:10) and Madi Kiraly (15th, 23:12).
