Edgewood girls win Chagrin Division title

BURTON–Led by four all-conference runners, Edgewood’s girls’ cross country team won the 2019 Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division title on Saturday at the Geauga County Fairgrounds.

The Warriors finished with 60 points, one ahead of second-place Geneva, who finished with 61. Hawken finished third with 73 and Perry rounded out the top four with 75.

Junior Lydia Randolph paced the Warriors as she finished sixth with a time of 20:54. Senior Eve Brunell joined her teammate on the first team as she placed eighth in 21:04. Sophomores Layce Artman and Monica Hamalainen earned second-team all-conference honors after placing 13th and 15th, respectively. Artman ran a time of 21:23 while Hamalainen finished in 21:40.

Hawken’s Ella Gilson won her third straight CVC title as she finished first in 18:25.

Other first-team all-conference runners included Geneva’s Elizabeth Joy (2nd, 20:09), Leah Costello (4th, 20:48), and Renee Tetlow (7th, 20:58), Hawken’s Juliana Metz (3rd, 20:31) and Perry’s Cori Lynch (5th, 20:50).

Second-team selections included Hawken’s Julia Newman (9th, 21:09), West Geauga’s Julia Martinez (10th, 21:12) and Skye Hackathorn (12th, 21:18), Lakeside’s Athena Pantoja (11th, 21:13), and Perry’s Camille Homolya (14th, 21:35) and Alyssa Vis (16th, 22:00).

Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986.
