Blue Devils cruise to win at In-School Dual

Independence and Lutheran West on Wednesday used a creative way to promote the sport of wrestling by competing in an In-School Dual.

The host Blue Devils won the match wrestled in front of the Independence student body during school hours, 66-15.

“It was an awesome environment,” Independence coach Ken DeAngelis said. “The band and cheerleaders got the crowd pumped up and the study body was loud and supportive.”

Sammy Sidor (106), Collin Patton (120), Liam Walker (138), Jimmy Senick (152), Ben Vitron (170), Brian Vollman (182), Luke Clymer (195), Braden Sears (220) and David Dorko (285) all recorded pins for the Blue Devils.

“We’ve been focusing on controlling the things we can control heading into the last third of the season,” DeAngelis said. “We can control our attitude, effort, and aggressiveness. All of the guys who wrestled tonight did a great job with all three of these. Now we need to carry that momentum into the (Chagrin Valley Conference) tournament this weekend.”

Lutheran West’s Anthony Vangelos won by decision at 132 while Khalid Morales and Donovan Palmer recorded a pin at 145 and 160, respectively.
