Chagrin Falls girls earn runner-up finish at sectionals

Chagrin Falls’ girls’ golf team is headed back to the district tournament after finishing in second place at Tuesday’s Division I sectional at Tamer Win Golf & Country Club.

The Tigers finished with 368 strokes to finish behind first-place Kent Roosevelt, who shot a 345. The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to next week’s district tournament.

Cristina Joseph shot an 89 to lead the Tigers. She finished in ninth place overall.

All five of Chagrin Falls’ golfers finished among the top 25 as Emma Bartlett tied for 10th with a 91, Hanne Wilson finished 14th with a 93 and Maggie Mills rounded out the scoring with a 95, good for a tie for 16th place. Chloe Steger finished tied for 25th.

Geneva finished in 12th place.

Audrey Williams led the Eagles with a 105 and Nia Gribbons shot a 108. Corinne Dushney (118), Isabella Aparicio (120) and Abbigayle Tagle (134) also competed for Geneva.

Lakeside’s Hannah Mathias finished tied for 43rd with a 110.

Hare began covering high school sports for the Lake County News Herald in 1997. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986.
