CVC athletes punch tickets to Division II regional meet

Several Chagrin Valley Conference athletes punched their ticket to the Division II regional Track & Field Meet with a top-four performance at the Lakeview District Meet on Thursday.

Edgewood’s Sarah Coxon was the runner-up in the shot put and the Warriors also advanced their girls’ 4×800-meter relay team to regionals with a fourth-place finish on Thursday. Grand Valley’s Nathan Boiarski and Berkshire’s Sam Chrzan also earned a regional berth in the long jump and pole vault, respectively.

Maddie Crooks, Tammy Liplin, Caroline Nelson, and Monica Hamalainen finished the 4×800 in 10:27.88 to finish fourth for the Warriors. Crestwood’s team of Abby Guyette, Elaine Guyette, Taylor Larch, and Ava Mory placed fifth in 10:32.49 but only the top four advanced to the regional meet.

Coxon heaved the shot put 35-feet, 3 ¼-inches to finish second. Teammate Taylor Vinosky scored in the meet with her eighth-place finish with a toss of 31-4.

Boiarski recorded a best jump of 20-feet, 7 ½-inches to secure his regional berth with a fourth-place finish. Teammate Robert Rogers placed sixth with a jump of 20-feet.

Chrzan locked in his regional berth by clearing 12-feet to finish third. Grand Valley’s Charlie Clason and Berkshire’s Lucas Leggett also scored in the event. Clason was fifth (11-0) and Leggett was seventh (10-6).

Other CVC athletes who scored on Day 1 included Crestwood’s Jynx Bretz, who was fifth in the high jump (4-8), and Edgewood’s Grace Degan and Morgan Haywood. Degan placed seventh in the pole vault (6-6) while Haywood was eighth (6-6).

Edgewood’s boys’ 4×800-meter relay team of Michael Ochoa, Braylon Wetherbee, Granison Hill, and Justin Jury placed seventh with a time of 8:59.85.

Edgewood’s girls’ team finished Day 1 in fourth place with 17 points while Crestwood’s girls were eighth with eight.

Grand Valley’s boys’ team finished the first day of competition in fifth place with 12 points while Berkshire was eighth with eight and Edgewood was 12th with two points.

A host of CVC athletes advanced to Saturday’s finals.

Crestwood’s Louis Blasiole finished with the fastest 100-meter dash with a time of 11.36 seconds. He also recorded the second-fastest time in the 200 (22.91) and helped the 4×400-meter relay team qualify for the finals with a sixth-place finish in the preliminary race. Nathan Blasiole, Henry Hoover, and Augie Schweickert teamed up with Blasiole to complete that relay in 3:39.96.

Also advancing to the finals for the Red Devils were Reagan Mory, who was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.59) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (51.24), Grace Lesnak, who was sixth in the 400 (1:03.90), Abby Guyette, who was third in the 800 (2:39.84), Ava Mory, who was sixth in the 800 (2:48.98), Hoover, who was fourth in the 800 (2:16.33), and Schweickert, who finished fifth in the 800 (2:13.20).

Crestwood also advanced two relay teams to the finals.

Audrey Fusci, Delaney McMahon, Reagan Mory, and Lesnak teamed up to finish fifth in the 4×200 prelims with a time of 1:54.97. Abby Guyette, Reagan Mory, Lesnak, and Ava Mory placed fifth in the 4×400 with a time of 4:24.54.

Grand Valley’s David Steimle advanced to the finals in the 1600 with a time of 5:05 and Boiarski was fifth in the 400 in 52.53.

Berkshire’s Zach Bable advanced to the finals in the 400 with a time of 53.84.

Edgewood’s Hill advanced in the 1600 (5:01.79). Crooks placed fifth in the 400 (1:03.50) and will run in the finals and Liplin and Nelson both advanced in the 800. Liplin was second (2:33.21) while Nelson was third (2:41.24).

The Warriors also advanced their 4×200-meter relay team to the finals. Wetherbee, Ty Vencill, Blake Benman, and Ian Miller placed seventh in the prelims with a time of 1:37.74.
